he Dyke House School website is a community driven site. At the heart of this online community are our learners. Our purpose is to raise educational standards across the curriculum and provide support for learners at any time of the day.
Dyke House School is the only secondary school locally to have the national ICT Mark which we have been re-awarded following a re-inspection in July 2008. Our aspiration is to make use of technology to support teaching and learning and to continue to make learning interesting and enjoyable..
This is an exciting time for learners and staff at the school. We now have our brand new improved website. We already have a desktop family computer scheme to support every family associated with our school in having an affordable desktop computer for family use linked to the internet. We will continue to support family learning as well as daytime classes for pupils and evening classes for adults. By 2012 we will have a totally refurbished school building with ICT even better than it is now!
The next step in our journey is to launch our ultra mobile PC scheme for every pupil in Y7, Y8 and Y9 before Christmas 2008. We have already launched this scheme to staff and training is underway so that we can all make the best use of this technology. By 2010 it is our plan to have every pupil in Dyke House School with their own personal pc linked to our school wide intranet with access from anywhere in the world. Every curriculum area will have material available via the school website and every parent will have access to the data of their child’s success in exam and test results, attendance figures and celebrations through the development of an e-portfolio as they all come on line.
Our online community will be able to use our site safe in the knowledge that the enclosed environment offered is managed by the school and only open to our community. Yet members will have facilities to upload video clips, chat and publish online in a safe and managed environment. Facilities exist to create friendship groups so that forums, sharing of video clips, images and blogs can become commonplace.
We already have a group of pupils who are involved in the development of our site. If you wish to join them to test run new facilities, create content or simply be the first to know about new developments on our site then send a message to our administrator.
