Students Score A Learning Hat-trick At Local Football Club
Once again, a group of fifteen Year 8 pupils from Dyke House School have begun to ‘Play for Success’ at Hartlepool United Football Club. This 10 week programme of Out of School Learning is based at the Pools Study Support Centre in Victoria Park, the home of Hartlepool United.
The programme features individual and team activities developing pupils’ numeracy, literacy and ICT skills. By focusing on football and often involving HUFC players who come along to work with the group, this is achieved in a fun way. In the first session, pupils started to plan, film, present and edit a video about the football club. The following week they put their journalistic talents to test when they have the opportunity to interview two of Hartlepool United’s stars.
Dyke House School has participated in Playing for Success on many occasions and it has proved a great success with many pupils wanting to come back for more. Judging from pupils’ reactions to the first session, this time promises to be equally successful.
