Young people have their say
Friday 7th November saw 11 pupils from Dyke House School (accompanied by Mr Childs and Miss Palmer) joining other young people from Hartlepool to take part in a ‘Face the Young People’ event in the Hartlepool Council Chamber at the Civic Centre.
This event, coordinated by the Hartlepool Safer Partnership gave pupils the opportunity to quiz key members of the Partnership including the Mayor (Stuart Drummond), the District Commander of Cleveland Police (Andy Summerbell), Cleveland District Fire Manager (Dave Turton) and the Tees-wide Director of Health (Peter Kelly).
As well as finding out what was being done to make Hartlepool a safer and better place for young people our pupils also had the chance to raise concerns about what they felt to be issues that affected them and to put forward their own ideas on what they wanted to see provided in their town.
The event formed part of ‘11 Million Takeover Day’ when throughout the country, 11 million young people got to work with key decision makers, people whose decisions affect the young people’s day to day lives in their local communities.
Well done to Ellie-Mae Attwood, Maddy Raine, Katie Braham, Michael Burford, Steph Pell, James Clennett, Kieran Kitching, Sam Barnfather, Philip Riley, Kayleigh Fisk and Danielle Howie for their valuable contributions to this important Citizenship event. I know you gave the adults something to think about!
