Student Librarian Awards
Poet Impressed
With Student Commitment
On Wednesday the 22nd of April ten pupils from Dyke House School attended a prestigious awards evening at Huntcliff School in Saltburn. Seven of the group have successfully completed the first stage of the Student Librarians Training Scheme. Three of our pupils have completed the advanced course. There were pupils from twenty-three secondary schools from across the Tees Valley receiving awards.
The guest speaker for the evening was the poet Paul Cookson. Paul entertained the audience of 500 pupils, staff and parents with his own very humorous display of performance poetry. Paul included audience participation in his performance, he had the whole audience reciting the "Footballer's Lords Pray". In his speech Paul stated how impressed he was at the commitment of so many young people towards libraries and reading.
All the pupils from Dyke House received certificates from Paul, chose one of Paul's books and had this signed by him and have had a group photograph taken. Well deserved rewards for their hard work in the OLC and all the effort they have made in successfully completing the scheme.
The pupils are, Jasmine Birch, Roseanne Charlton, Sharnie Mann, Rachel Lee, Jack Ogden, Lloyd Twidale, Sarah Harris and Sophie Oliver. The advanced pupils are, Ashleigh Oliver, Hope Twidale and Adam Payne. Well done!
That is true, Paul was verry funny on stage i was laughing all the time and his poems really good.I reccomend his poems to all the people of all ages ecspecially 13+.
I thought the Advanced Librarian Scheme was verry intersting to do there was a mixed of different things within every modual, some where practucul and some where written tasks. I perticually enjoyed doing this scheme it gave me something to do and also taught me more things about our library which i didnt no from doing my basic librarian scheme. so i reccomend to all you basic librraians to take the second course because it helps you alot.
