Attendance Print E-mail
School attendance 2009-2010
Regular and consistent attendance is essential if pupils are to obtain maximum benefit from their curriculum entitlement within school. We work in partnership with parents to ensure the careful monitoring of attendance through morning and afternoon registration.

In addition to this we have introduced an electronic system that records each pupil’s attendance to lessons so we will know the moment a pupil does not turn up as expected from their previous lesson. Parents are informed, usually by text message, when their child is absent from school without prior warning.

We are required to give figures for unauthorised absence, which are shown below. An unauthorised absence occurs when there is no reason given for a pupil missing from school. Parents must inform us by note, telephone or other means if their child is absent for any reason. Total number of pupils on roll for at least one session during reporting period:

•  Percentage of half-day session missed through AUTHORISED absence 7.1%
•  Percentage of half-day session missed through UNAUTHORISED absence 0.9%
We are also required to report persistent absence figures. A number of strategies are in place to support young people in improving their attendance to reduce persistent absence.
